The current world champions dominated this year’s tests with the best times, the most exciting innovation and the most laps, but other teams had very good preparations, with nine of them driving more than 80% Mercedes’ laps.

Mercedes did not have perfect testing when it came to reliability because of the three engines they had to use in their car and the three engines in Williams, while Racing Point was their only team without failure on the new F1 M11 EQ Performance power unit.

But even with these problems, Mercedes completed the most laps (903), although they were fourth in the second test with only 61 laps on the penultimate day due to engine problem.

Ferrari compensated for the eighth number of laps in the first test with the biggest number of laps in the second test (490), four fewer than Mercedes in the first test.

McLaren converted the sixth and fourth places into the third best number of laps completed, 88.82% of Mercedes’ laps, which is by far the most for them in recent years.

Racing Point is not only fast but also reliable – it was the only Mercedes’ team that had no breakdown on the engine, and in the second test they drove two laps more than the factory team, which with seventh place from the first test was enough for fourth place overall.

Red Bull were second after the first test, but in the second test they completed the fewest laps of all the teams and dropped to fifth place overall although still with a very good 86.38% of Mercedes’ laps.

AlphaTauri had only 11 laps less than Red Bull in sixth place and Renault is seventh with 26 laps less.

Williams drove the second highest number of laps behind Ferrari in the second test, which moved them from ninth to eighth, and Alfa Romeo dropped dramatically in the second test (113 laps less than in the first) and finished ninth overall.

Haas finished last, being the only team with under 80% of Mercedes’ laps (71.87%).
