Formula One bosses confirmed on April 18, 2021 that Miami would host the 2022 F1 race after several years of planning, securing a ten-year contract with Formula One.
The track will be 5.41 kilometers long, similar to the track in Bahrain with which it shares the number of laps (57), will have 19 turns and three potential DRS zones with a top speed of more than 320 km/h. It will pass around Hard Rock Stadium. the headquarters of the Miami Dolphins NFL team.
Although it is a street circuit, there are numerous changes in elevation, such as between Turns 13 and 16, and the slow chicane made up of Turns 14 and 15 is approached uphill and then followed by a drop towards the Turns 16 leading to a long straight.
The lap starts with a slow right hander followed by a full throttle period through the second and third corners ahead of a series of medium speed turns 4,5,6,7 while the Turn 8 has a slightly tighter radius. Exit speed from that corner is crucial as the longest full throttle period follows, as well as first DRS zone.
This period lasts from the exit of the Turn 8, includes mild Turns 9 and 10 and only after a little more than a kilometer follows the braking zone for the slow left Turn 11. After fiveslow consecutive turns, includint Turn 16 which leads to a kilometer long straight where is a second DRS zone.
The straight ends with a slow Turn 17, following Turns 18 and 19 through which drivers will accelerate at full throttle towards a short start-finish straight where the third DRS zone is placed.
