Fernando Alonso will drive for Alpine’s F1 team next season after the team confirmed the extension of his contract for the 2022 F1 season thanks to great performances in the first part of the season.
Alonso announced the contract extension yesterday with an ncrypted message, to which his teammate Ocon replied and said that everyone would quickly understand what it was about while the Spaniard replied that they have 24 hours to figure it out.
Just as he said, the news was confirmed the next day and Alpine announced ahead of the rest of the season in Belgium that they would extend their contract with the two-time world champions after they had previously extended their contract with Ocon.
“I am very happy to be able to confirm the contract extension with Alpine’s F1 team for 2022,” Alonso said.
“I’ve felt at home since I got back on this team and I’ve been welcomed with open arms.”
“It is my pleasure to work again with some of the brightest minds in our sport in Enstone and Viry-Chatillon.”
“This has been a difficult season for everyone, but we have shown progress as a team and the result in Hungary [1st and 4th place] is a good example of that progress.”
“We aim for even more positive memories for the rest of the season, but also for next year with the new rules.”
“I have been a big supporter of the need for a level playing field and change in the sport and the 2022 season will be a great opportunity for that.”
“I am looking forward to the rest of this year and racing alongside Esteban in 2022 for Alpine.”
