Fernando Alonso believes that after three difficult seasons with McLaren this year things will finally come good and he is glad he has not withdrawn from Formula 1 because he believes that he and McLaren have an unfinished business.
After five years in Ferrari, where Alonso finished as a runner up three times behind Vettel, Spaniard returned to McLaren in 2015, where he had spent a turbulent season with Hamilton in 2007, and due to uncompetitive Honda engine, the car had only occasionally had the potential to score points. But nothing more than that.
Meanwhile, McLaren has undergone technical restructuring, changed the executive director, dropped the traditional name of the car and returned to the orange color with which they started their F1 journey.
“McLaren and I have unfinished business together,” said Alonso.
“And I think this year’s time has come for things to change. I’m pretty sure of that.”
“We should return to the normal situation during which you prepare for each weekend during the free practice and you know you should be in the top five. And if you are good you can be on the podium.”
“And if you do something really special, you could win. This motivation and preparation was something I miss most. These are the things I hope for this season, this is my greatest expectation. ”
Last race that Alonso won was the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix while his last visit to the podium was in Hungary in 2014, in the last year in red car.

The Spaniard has admitted that it was not easy during his last three years, as he knew there was no chance in the podium, but he believes he will be able to give his maximum in a competitive car.
“I have not felt it for a while, but now I feel I could have a very good season if we have a good package because I’m sure I’ll be able to give you something extra from myself, what I did all my career.”
“It’s something that comes naturally, but when you have a penalty in Mexico and start from the back, last two tenths or some race moves just don’t happen.”
“That does not happen consciously, you just feel that way on that day.”
