Managing Director and CEO of Alpine Laurent Rossi highlighted the ambitious plans of his team for 2022, which wants to make its best car ever in the year of a major change in technical regulations, and says they have a plan and vision to achieve that goal.
Renault has long highlighted the new technical regulations as its opportunity to return to the top of Formula 1, and ambitions have not changed under the new name Alpine, which represents Renault’s sports and racing brand.
Before making his F1 comeback, Alonso said that he does not expect great results in 2021, but that he believes they can fight for podiums and victories in 2022 while Rossi shares his ambitions and believes they can design ‘their best car ever’.
Alpine’s A521 car this year uses Renault’s 2019 chassis as the team had no plans to make a new chassis for the last year for the last year of the current technical rules, but as the pandemic postponed the new rules for 2022, Alpine is stuck with two-year-old chassis in 2021.
“We know we’ve more or less come to an end with this car,” Rossi told the official F1 website.
“We’re working on a car that has practically reached its limit. It’s not the best car, we see it. But it’s a good car.”
“The goal is to get the most out of that package this season and use it to fine-tune operations within our organization, and in the meantime we need to make sure we build the best car ever for the next era of rules.”
“The team is in place and there are some new people. Marcin [Budkowski] has started to leave his mark on the team, we have hired several high-profile engineers.”
“So we’re sure the new mayonnaise will taste good next year, we’re French so we know a few things about mayonnaise.”
“We have a plan, we have a vision. When I first arrived I talked intensively with Marcin and he showed me a pretty clear plan for the team.”
“I talked to all the engineers and realized they were pretty aligned with him, which is a rarity because I’ve been in a lot of organizations where management isn’t aligned with the lower layers of the organization.”
“It gives me a lot of confidence because we have a plan. We have best practices coming from all the teams. We have people who have worked in the best teams in the last 23 years. We have a double world champion who will bring his expertise.”
“I think we’re on the first step of a long journey, but I’m very confident.”
