Valtteri Bottas set the fastest lap on the last day of Barcelona’s first test, 1.5 seconds faster than the fastest time so far this year and only three tenths slower than the track record while Ferrari had a problem with the engine which needed to be replaced.

Bottas drove the 1:15.732 lap using the softest Pirelli C5 tyres, eight tenths faster than his team-mate Hamilton who took over the Mercedes F1 W11 in the afternoon and also used the C5 tyres in his fastest lap.

Mercedes completed 138 laps on the third day of testing, 45 laps less than the previous day, while Renault, Red Bull and Alfa Romeo had more laps in the bag.

Vettel stopped on the track at about 11am in the Turn 12 and caused a second red flag this year and the test continued after about 20 minutes after the Ferrari was delivered back to the garage. After the incident, Vettel was no longer on the track before continuing the test after the lunch break when he continued to drive with the new engine.

Ferrari managed to make up for some of the time they lost in the afternoon and Vettel completed 100 laps total in the SF1000, car for which Binotto admitted is slower than Mercedes and Red Bull at the moment.

Vettel finished the day in 13th place out of 16 drivers, and only Williams was slower than Ferrari, in which Latifi was able to drive 72 laps after technical problems in the morning.

In the afternoon we saw two red flags – the first caused Magnussen in Haas, who had a rear right tyre puncture in his fifth lap, spun and ended up in the wall in the Turn 8 after which he did not return to the track.

Ricciardo caused a second break when he stopped on the track near the Turn 9 with a still unknown problem on the Renault R.S.20.

Ocon remained third with his time in the morning on the C4 tyres (1:17.102) before handing over the RS20 to Ricciardo, who was four tenths slower on the C3 tyres, and drove 17 laps more, giving Renault 169 laps, exactly as much as Red Bull, which is the highest number of laps of all teams on day three.

Stroll was fourth in his Racing Point on the C4 tyres, two tenths behind Ocon and four hundredths ahead of Kvyat in AlphaTauri, who shared a car with teammate Gasly today – collecting 121 laps together for the new AT01.

Giovinazzi drove as many as 152 laps in the Alfa C39 with the best time on the C4 tyres, with Ricciardo seventh for Renault ahead of Verstappen in Red Bull and Gasly in AlphaTauri.

Albon shared the Red Bull RB16 with Verstappen today, finishing half a second behind him on the same tyres (C2) with almost the same number of laps (169 total) that Red Bull puts on top on day three together with Renault.

Sainz shared McLaren MCL35 with Norris and finished 11th fastest ahead of Grosjean, Vettel and Norris, with Latifi setting 15th fastest time on C3 tyres, giving Williams the slowest time on day three.

Magnussen drove only four laps in the Haas VF-20 due to a tyre puncture and a collision that followed and finished last.
