Renault’s F1 driver Carlos Sainz will perform on the last stage of the first race of the new WRC season in Monte Carlo in the new Megane R.S. where his father celebrated three times in his career.
French car maker will give Sainz an opportunity to perform on the last stage of the famous rally that his father won in 1991, 1995 and 1998 and which marks his debut in WRC.
The young Spaniard will drive a 13.58 kilometer long La Cabanette-Col de Braus Power Stage in the new Renault R.S.
Carlos will pass the stage as a VIP course car that checks the track before the WRC contestants go for it. The road starts in the alpine surrounding 1400 meters above sea level and descends through a series of narrow curves before the climbs and passes across the mountain to the Col de Braus.
“I’m really looking forward to experiencing the Monte Carlo rally for the first time, I’ve heard so much about it from my dad, how difficult the stages are, how the conditions can change in an instant from snow to rain or bright sunshine and of course how you need nerves of steel for some of those mountain passes and hairpins!,” said Sainz.
“It’s going to be a real thrill to take part in such a legendary event behind the wheel of a Megane R.S, which will be fitted with snow and studded tyres so I can get a more complete sensation of rallying around these stages.”
New Megane R.S.
Sainz will drive a new model of the famous Megane R.S. which does not hide its connection to motorsports, and its chassis promises efficiency, agility, stability and comfort.
One of the specialties of the new Megane R.S. is a four-wheel steering that should provide much better torque and power utilization under low grip conditions.
The new generation of engine is 1.8 liter unit with a turbo charger that develops the maximum power of 280 HP and the highest torque of 390 Nm thanks to the work of Renault Sport Cars and Renault Sport Racing engineers.
Two types of gearboxes are available, either a manual or EDC automatic with two clutches, as well as two types of chassis, Sport and Cup.
