McLaren is the first team to unveil its new F1 car for 2021 MCL35M which will use Mercedes power units for the first time since 2014 in which they hope to defend third place in the constructors’ championship.

The presentation of the new car began in the studio at the McLaren factory in Woking where the presenter interviewed drivers Land Norris and Daniel Ricciardo who were later joined by McLaren CEO Zak Brown and Team Principal Andreas Seidl.

The car was not in the factory because it will do a filming day at Silverstone tommorow where a maximum of 100 km can be driven but McLaren has released studio photos of the new MCL35M in an orange-blue color combination and showed a video of James Key inspecting the new car with the drivers.

The McLaren MCL35M is the only F1 car this year that does not have the same chassis as last year, as required by the rules to reduce costs, as they had to make the necessary changes to install the Mercedes power unit.

For the past three years, McLaren has used Renault engines with which it finished fourth in 2019 and third in the constructors’ championship in 2020, which will not be easy to repeat this year with a much stronger Ferrari and an increasingly powerful Renault and Aston Martin.

The 2020 F1 season was McLaren’s best year since 2012 when they also finished third, but with eight pole positions and seven wins while in 2020 they achieved just two podiums, with no wins and pole positions.

Sainza will replace Ricciardo, who has spent the last two years at Renault, having won seven times at Red Bull from 2014 to the end of 2018.

The new MCL35M will do the first kilometers on the track tomorrow at Silverstone, when a film day is scheduled for 100 km on special Pirelli tyres.

Pre-season testing in Bahrain will last only three days (March 12-14), and the first race of the season will run from March 26 to 28 in the same country.
