As part of the big upgrade package they brought to Barcelona, Mercedes also showed radically curved vanes from each side of the nose that we have not yet seen in the new technical era of Formula 1.
After the first four races, Mercedes worked hard to eliminate its shortcomings, including overweight, and like all other teams, they also worked on a new aerodynamic package.
Among them are the new curved longitudinal vanes that begin on the lower part of the nose and then fall below the lower wishbones.
Also, vanes spread underneath the nose to help deliver the as laminar airflow as possible to the rest of the car and other aerodynamic elements behind the front wheels. Their shape help to achiev more precise airflow control in this sensitive area influenced by rotating front wheels.
The vanes are higher at the front to speed the air up while it’s traveling down the vane and arrive faster to the rest of the car.
