Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel tested the new Aston Martin F1 car for 2022 for the first time on the Silverstone track, which is the first opportunity to see a new generation of cars on the track before the start of pre-season testing in Barcelona.
Aston Martin unveiled their new 2022 F1 car yesterday and are the first team to show a real car, unlike Haas and Red Bull, and today they went a step further and tested the new car for the first time on the track.
The team used the first of two filming days during which they are allowed to drive a maximum of 100 kilometers on a special compound of Pirelli tyres that are 18-inch from this year.
Chief technology officer Andrew Green explained Aston Martin’s desire to drive the first kilometers in the new car as soon as possible in order to have time to react to possible problems before the start of the test in Barcelona on 23 February and to avoid wasting precious time on the track.
“We wanted to do the first test as early as possible to check all the systems on the car,” said Green.
“It gives us some time between the shakedown and the test in Barcelona. That’s why we decided to do it on Friday, so we have time to react.”
“Hopefully we won’t have anything to react to, but as the car is brand new and as the pre-season tests are really short [twice every three days] and the second test is so close to the first race [a week before], it will be almost impossible to react. ”
“It gives us a good time interval from the shakedown to the first test.”
