Lando Norris and Sergio Perez currently have the most penalty points among F1 drivers while Max Verstappen is the only driver who has raced in F1 in the last 12 months and who does not have any penalty points – we bring you an overview of penalty points before the British Grand Prix.
Penalty points that drivers receive for various offenses last for 12 months, which means that when that time period expires, the driver gets the points he received for that incident deleted and if a driver has 12 penalty points in the last 12 months, he misses the next championship race.
Norris had 10 penalty points after the Austrian Grand Prix after getting two points for pushing Perez off the track in their duel in the Turn 4, but before the next race at Silverstone two points were erased because more than 12 months had passed since the 2020 Styrian Grand Prix when he received two penalty points for overtaking Gasly under yellow flags.
That’s why Norris currently has eight points, just like Perez who won as many as four penalty points in the last race in Austria – twice times two points for the incidents with Leclerc, which he did not leave enough space in the Turns 4 and 6.
Four drivers have six points – Russell, Vettel, Raikkonen and Latifi while Giovinazzi and Mazepin have five penalty points, although Mazepin has not collected them in the last 12 months but in less than four months of racing in Formula 1.
Tsunoda has collected four penalty points in less than four months, four times one point – due to the track limits in Imola, holding Bottas in qualifying in Austria and for crossing the white line twice at the pitlane entry on the same track – while Stroll also has four points.
Leclerc, Hamilton and Bottas have two penalty points each – Leclerc for colliding with Perez at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, Hamilton for entering the pits under the red lights at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix and Bottas for his spin in the pitlane in the second free practice in Austria.
Ocon, Ricciardo, Sainz and Gasly currently have one penalty point each, and Verstappen, Schumacher and Alonso are the only ones not to have penalty points on their super licenses.
Unlike Schumacher and Alonso who have been racing in Formula 1 for the last four months, Verstappen is the only driver who has no penalty points while racing in F1 in the last 12 months.
