On this day in 2008. – Last French GP at Magny Cours

On this day in 2008. Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen secured Ferrari 1-2 victory in last race at Magny Cours track.

Kimi Raikkonen qualified on a pole position with a slightly lighter car than second placed Felipe Massa who was 0.041 seconds slower, third was Fernando Alonso at the home race for Renault (+0.391).

Hamilton was punished with 10 places at the start of the race due to a incident in Canada and Kovalainen was penalized with five places at the start for blocking Webber in qualifying.

Raikkonen built a lead over Massa in first stint, but in the second section Finn had to slow down due to the problem with the exhaust system that destroyed the bodywork at the back of his F2008.

Massa used the opportunity and overtook Raikkonen in the lap39 and won his first race in France while Kimi finished second with 18 seconds behind his teammate.

Jarno Trulli in Toyota was third, Kubica in the BMW Sauber fourth, Webber in Red Bull fifth, followed by two Renault drivers Piquet and Alonso.

Last points were won by Coulthard in second Red Bull and Hamilton in McLaren.

Massa moved to the top of the drivers championship, two points more than Kubica, five more than Raikkonen and ten more than Hamilton.
