Red Bull tested the new aerodynamic element in front of the sidepods that has been used by Mercedes since last year, and this year, Williams also began to use it on their FW41.
Red Bull added a new aerodynamic element in front of the sidepods, which is attached at the ends to other aerodynamic elements near the sidepod shoulders.
The new fin (turquoise) replaced the horizontal, simpler fin located next to the main bargeboards in this area.
The role of the fin is to direct the air into the sidepod openings and take the turbulent airflow from the rotating front wheels to make it as laminar as possible for the rest of the car.
Similar fins were often seen in 2007 and 2008 before they were banned for 2009.
In the next image you can see the old aerodynamic configuration of Red Bull RB14.
