Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko believes that his team will win ‘at least five times’ with their new 2019 F1 Honda engine and beat their best win record in new V6 hybrid era from 2018 when they won four times with Renault.
Red Bull has started well with Honda with ‘the best winter tests’ that were spoiled a little bit by two crashes from Pierre Gasly and because of his last crash, Red Bull didn’t complete the planned qualifying simulation on the last day.
Last year Red Bull drivers Verstappen and Ricciardo scored two wins each, and Helmut Marko believes that this year his team can be at least a little better than that.
The main favorites are Ferrari drivers while Red Bull is between them and the Mercedes, Marko believes.
“Ferrari are favorite,” he said.
“Ferrari were quick as if they already done a week of testing.”
“We were on the back foot due to Gasly’s two accidents and the resulting loss of time.”
“We brought things that were not fully developed because of his crashes, especially because of a second crash that was completely unnecessary. He must show more discipline.”
“But I think we will win at least five races, and the number of races on which we are competitive need to be broader.”
“It’s hard to say where we stand, but we think we’re between Ferrari and Mercedes.”
