Daniel Ricciardo has damaged a new 2018 Red Bull F1 car RB14 on the first test as part of a filming day in Silverstone, but the team says their plans for the new season remain unchanged.
The Australian first got the chance to try the new RB14, which was presented in a camouflaged dark blue edition, but in very difficult and cold conditions he lost control of the car and hit the fence at a low speed.
As pre-season testing start in six days, Red Bull will no doubt produce new parts to make the car ready for Barcelona on February 26th.
Despite the collision, Ricciardo was encouraged by the behavior of a new car, especially by grip of the rear end in very difficult conditions.
“It’s difficult to say after a few laps, but the initial feeling for the car is good,” he said.
“I already feel that the rear end is quite stable, even in these difficult conditions, which are encouraging first signs.”
“As for the halo system, it’s good at the moment. Before this test I did just a few laps with halo, but today I really did not notice it was there.”
