Daniel Ricciardo finished the first day of pre-season testing in Barcelona on top of the timesheets with best time 1:20.179 set on medium Pirelli tyres, but he was also the only driver with more than 100 laps.

Ricciard’s best time of 1:20,.179 is 1.6 seconds faster than Hamilton’s best time on soft tyres on the first day of testing last season and 1.5 seconds faster than the fastest time on the medium tyres of the entire 2017 testing set by Vettel in Ferrari.

Ricciardo is also the only driver who has driven more than 100 laps, fullfiling Red Bull’s promise and driving more than 100 laps on the first day, which was their goal for their nef RB14.

Bottas was second fastest in MercedesW09, also on medium tyres, and Raikkonen was the third fastest for Ferrari. Hamilton replaced Bottas in the afternoon, but he only completed 25 laps due to bad weather.

Hulkenberg in Renault was the fourth fastest with the best time set in the morning, and later Sainz took over and set sixth best time.

McLaren had a troublesome start test due to rear wheel problems that caused Alonso’ spin after just a few laps.

After more than three hours, Alonso returned to the track and in the afternoon on supersoft tyres and set fifth best time with 51 laps for the new MCL33 with Renault engine.

McLaren’s former partner Honda had a very solid start with Toro Rosso as Hartley completed 93 laps in the new STR13.

Stroll was faster than two Williams drivers in ninth place with 46 laps for Williams while Sirotkin added 28 more laps for the new FW41 but failed to set a representative laptime.

Grosjean in Haas was the 10th fastest in front of Ericsson in Alfa Romeo Sauber and Mazepin in Force India, who caused the red flag in the morning after he went out in the fourth corner and did not drive in the afternoon.
