George Russell has completed the last miles for Formula One this season, testing new 18-inch Pirelli tyres that will be used from 2021 and will debut in Formula 2 next year.
Russell drove a modified Mercedes F1 W10 on Sunday and Monday equipped with 18-inch wheels and tyres, making a total of 218 laps – 100 on Sunday and 118 on Monday.
Tests for new tyres have already been done by Renault and McLaren and Mercedes did the last test in Abu Dhabi ahead of the introduction of a new tyre dimension in Formula 2 in 2020.
Renault and McLaren have competed their tests on Paul Ricard circuit in France while the data from all three tests will be available to all teams.
Next year, Pirelli plans to have 25 test days for the new tyre sizes that will include all ten teams and after the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi all teams will try out the final specifications of the new tyres, just as they did this year with the 2020 tyres.
