Former Formula One team ‘Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team’ will be rebranded as ‘Alfa Romeo Racing’ for 2019 F1 season after starting their partnership in 2018.
Last year’s inclusion of Alfa Romeo in the name of Sauber’s F1 team was the first appearance of the Alfa Romeo name in Formula 1 since 1985 and the partnership is the result of close collaboration with the Ferrari team whose power units have been using for several years.
But since 2019 the partnership was taken on a new level because the team will be called ‘Alfa Romeo Racing’.
Alfa Romeo Racing team principal Frederic Vasseur expressed his satisfaction that the team in 2019 F1 season will have a new name.
“It is my pleasure to announce that we will enter the 2019 F1 championship with the name ‘Alfa Romeo Racing'”, said Vasseur.
“After our collaboration with our main sponsor Alfa Romeo in 2018, our team has made great progress on the technical, commercial and sporting side.”
“This gave us new motivation for each team member and hard work began to be seen in our results.”
“We want to continue to develop each sector of our team and enable our passion for racing, technology and design to keep us moving forward.”
Sauber F1 Team was established back in 1993 when they used Mercedes F1 engines and had some financial support from the German manufacturer, but when Mercedes tied with McLaren Sauber started to use Ford F1 engines and after that year – old Ferrari F1 engines rebranded as ‘Petronas’.
Team was buyed by BMW back in 2006 but continued as Sauber from 2010 as BMW decided to pull the plug at the end of 2009.
Since then, team had some difficult moments, but partnership with Ferrari and Alfa Romeo brand got them back in the midfield fight in F1 2018.
