At the Italian Grand Prix 2011. we had a rare chance to watch an exciting battle of two great drivers from different generations, Michael Schumacher, whose career was approaching its end, and Lewis Hamilton who was in his fifth F1 season.
Mercedes W02 had a set up with less downforce, which is evident from the profile of the rear wing which is much shallower than the rear wing of the Hamilton’s McLaren MP4-26. Therefore, Schumacher had a better straightline speed even though they had the same 2,4-liter Mercedes V8 engine.
After several unsuccessful attempts, Hamilton eventually overtook Schumacher and finished the race in fourth place while the seven-time world champion finished fifth.
