Autosport and Motorsport revealed exclusive photos of the new Williams FW40 which marks the 40 th anniversary of Williams F1 history.
Williams FW40 also became the first car of the new generation who was publicly shown before the official launch of the car and the first tests in Barcelona after Manor showed a photo of the car with which they were to compete in the new season of Formula 1.
New car for 2017 features wider tires, wider and lower rear wing, wider and angled front wing and a new aerodynamic package that will allow the cars to have much higher levels of downforce than before.
Williams kept a visual identity they used in the previous three years, and shape of the nose is similar to last year. Airbox above the driver’s head is now slightly wider, similar to last year’s Mercedes W07, and sidepods do not use the maximum width of 1600 mm (minimum width is 1400 mm).
The rear wing has a curved endplates, as required by technical regulations, just as test Ferrari SF15-T with which Pirelli has tested a new generation of tires for 2017.
Engine cover has extended fin to improve airflow towards the lower and wider rear wing.
