Formula 1 confirmed today that the Turkish GP will replace the Canadian GP in the 2021 F1 calendar and take its place from June 11 to 13 due to the unfavorable situation regarding travel restrictions in that country.

Due to restrictions on entry to Canada due to the coronavirus pandemic, Formula 1 will not travel to Canada this year, and as announced, Turkey is ready to grab its opportunity and will host the F1 race unplanned for the second year in a row.

“We are grateful for all the efforts of promoters and authorities in Canada, Quebec and Montreal to try to hold the race and we are thrilled to announce the extension of the contract with the Canadian Grand Prix for another two years,” said the Formula 1 in its statement.

“We will continue to work with the promoter to ensure that tickets for the 2020 and 2021 races are rescheduled for next year or refunded and we look forward to racing in Canada in 2022.”

“While it is disappointing that we cannot race in Canada this year, we are excited to confirm that Turkey will host the F1 race in 2021 after an incredible race last season,” added Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali.

“I know all the fans are excited about the dramatic start to the season and Turkey is a great track that brings exciting battles.”

“I want to thank the promoters and authorities in Canada for their efforts, but the travel situation has made our plans impossible. I also want to thank the promoters and authorities in Turkey for their willingness to hold the F1 race which shows a huge interest in our sport.”

“We have had very good communication with all the other promoters since the start of the season and we will continue to work closely together during this period.”
