Las Vegas could host the third F1 race in the USA after Miami secured a place in F1 calendar this season and Austin has been a permanent member of the calendar since 2012., replacing Indianapolis which hosted F1 races from 2000 until 2007.
Formula 1 has already visited Las Vegas, which hosted the world’s fastest drivers and cars in 1981 and 1982, but the track was not very popular among drivers as it was driven on a temporary track built in the parking lot of the famous Caesars Palace Hotel.
The Sports Business Journal reports that Formula One officials have visited Las Vegas several times in the past few months and that an agreement has been reached with Formula One, giving the USA three races in the 2023 F1 calendar.
Red Bull visited Las Vegas in 2017 and 2018 as part of its ‘Road Trip USA’ programme when F1 cars on the streets of Las Vegas were driven by Verstappen and Ricciardo, including the city’s most famous street ‘Las Vegas Strip’ / ‘Las Vegas Boulevard’, which is known for its high concentration of casinos and hotels.
The new track, the details of which are not yet known, should also pass through the most famous street in the city and it will almost certainly be a night race.
Since the Liberty Media Group took over Formula One in 2017, their efforts to popularize the sport in this huge market that is almost completely untapped for Formula 1 are clear, and more racing in that country with more than 300 million inhabitants has been a goal from the start.
Miami will host the F1 race this season, and if Las Vegas joins the 2023 calendar, the United States will have three races for the first time, which in addition to races in Brazil, Canada and Mexico gives six races on the American continents.
