Williams became the fifth team to announce the launch date of the new 2021 F1 car which will bear the name FW43B and the public will see it for the first time on March 5, a week before the start of pre-season testing in Bahrain.
After having by far the slowest Formula 1 car in 2018 and 2019, Williams closed the gap to the back of the midfield runners in 2020 and Russell as their faster driver often entered the second qualifying segment even though they finished without points at the end of the season.
From this season, Williams will use Mercedes gearboxes, which will allow them to focus their time and resources on other areas, while retaining the same driving lineup with George Russell and Nicholas Latifi.
Williams also posted a video of the first fire-up of their new Mercedes powered car with which they hope to avoid another season without a point while Mercedes surpassed them last season in the number of Formula 1 victories.
Despite this, Williams is still the fourth most successful team in terms of number of victories (114, one less than Mercedes) and drivers’ titles (7) and the second most successful team in terms of the number of constructors’ titles (9) – only Ferrari has more constructors’ titles (16).
